Mr. Yousuf Behzad, Executive Director, Human Capital and Strategy, at Dubai Airport Free Zone said the awards are aimed at honoring businesses in the free zone that are committed to safety and environmental management; and to provide informative and educational insights to help businesses turn their operations green.
"This is in line with the declared policy of the Director General, Dr. Mohammed Al Zarouni, to ensure that the Dubai Airport Free Zone is committed to preserve the environment and protect the health and safety of all people in the free zone," said Mr. Behzad.
The Business Awards are in the Eco category of Green Office Award and Green Property Management Award. There will be two in the Health & Safety Award category - Health & Safety Management Award and Best Solution to Health and Safety Hazard Award.
Companies operating in the Dubai Airport Free Zone are eligible to participate in the awards. The last date for submission of forms by the companies is March 19, 2009.
Under each category, there will be only one winner and winners will be honoured at a celebration event, the date of which will be announced shortly.
"Companies participating in the Business Awards stand to gain many benefits including an opportunity to benchmark their commitment to safety and environment, recognition of excellence and an opportunity to celebrate achievements," said Behzad.
He added that with the award in place "Competitiveness and improvement of image amongst stakeholders will be enhanced. In addition, the companies will be able to practice their corporate social responsibilities and reinforce legal compliances."
The awards criteria for Green Office Award and Green Property Management Award are - (green leadership) applicants must be able to demonstrate commitment of top management and staff towards implementation of environmental initiatives; (partner synergy) how an organization explores opportunities to inform suppliers and contractors about the importance of environmental management; and program and performance while carrying out their environmental programs.
The criteria for Health and Safety Management Award are - (soundness and integration of the system) demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety; deployment of the system and assessment and review. The criteria for Best Solution to Health & Safety Hazard award will look at quality of solution; innovativeness and effectiveness.
Eligibility
All companies licensed and registered within the Dubai Airport Free Zone regardless of size or industry, are eligible to apply under any of the business awards categories. All awards nominations have to be submitted online via email or delivered by hand to the Strategy and Excellence Department.
Each submission will be reviewed by competent assessors. Short listed nominations will be subject to site visit. Short listed nominations will then be judged by a panel of experts/consultants after the site visits. Each nomination will be scored by the judges using a simple scoring system based on the criteria for each award.
