Electronics giant Panasonic has reaffirmed its commitment in the Middle East to Go Green by highlighting its pledge to the continued design and enhancement of environmentally-friendly technologies.

This restatement comes in the wake of the just concluded World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.

The summit attracted delegates from 30 countries and over 300 businesses together and was attended by a large contingent of international media. Notable speakers included ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blair and HRH Prince William-Alexander of the Netherlands. Issues placed under the spotlight included renewable fuel sources, green technologies, carbon management, and environmental strategy.

Panasonic has already invested heavily in green technologies through its Eco-Ideas initiative, which was launched in the Middle East in October 2007. Through this notable initiative the company aims to reduce 300 000 tons of carbon dioxide globally by 2010, and total emissions to 2001 levels by 2011.

"The world is our only home, and it is, therefore, in everybody's best interest to protect it. This is why Panasonic is heavily committed to providing environmentally-sustainable technologies and production techniques that reduce our carbon footprint,"
says Panasonic Marketing Middle East (PMM) Deputy General Manager, Taeko Danno.

"One of our commitments is to produce energy efficient products which will reduce household energy consumption and lead to CO2 emissions reduction. We not only develop energy-efficient products, but make it widely known that our products reduce energy consumption and the emission of CO2. Our Viera range of plasma screens is a testimony to this," she adds.

Environmental consideration starts at the design stage, because Panasonic cares about the future of the earth. Lead-free plasma panels and an improved panel life of up to 100,000-hours are examples of how design features of the Viera production help to conserve the earth and its resources. What's more, functions now include a new ECO mode to help lower power consumption.

Lead makes TV screens look sharper and clearer. While other industry players use approximately 70g of lead on their plasma TVs, Panasonic is the only manufacturer in the world which produces completely lead-free plasma screens by replacing lead with an environment friendly product without compromising on the picture quality.

Viera TV technologies bring higher levels of quality, versatility and enjoyment to home entertainment in the strongest flat-panel display line-up ever. According to Danno, consumers will find attractive enhancements in each plasma and LCD TV offered by Panasonic this year. In terms of both features and performance, this impressive new line-up will reflect Panasonic's quest to continually improve viewing quality, networking and environmentally-conscious manufacturing.

In addition, Panasonic was recently named in the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World, which is a list of the top companies based on their performance in social, environmental and strategic governance issues.
