  • PRESS RELEASE

Dubai's position as a hub for golf has been further underlined with the announcement that the city will host the inaugural International Golf Festival in September this year.

The three-day event, which will be held from September 27th - 29th at the Dubai World Trade Centre, will include an extensive golf exhibition which will be open to the public.

A comprehensive conference will give the industry an opportunity to meet in one of the world's most exciting golf destinations to discuss topics such as marketing, tourism, celebrity endorsement, youth development and real estate opportunities.

George Betz, International Sales Director at Worldwide Conferences and events, said: "We see the International Golf Festival filling a gap in the market and unlike other golf shows which have been held here in the past it will be widely open to the public.

"Golf lovers will have the opportunity to see the latest in golf course design, meet with golf equipment manufacturers and retailers and also learn more about the spectacular golf travel destinations which are available not only on our own doorstep, but right around the world."

Golf tour operators, hoteliers, property developers and tournament organisers and promoters are all expected to play a role in the event programme.

Mr Betz added:
"We've already reached agreements with some of the major suppliers and leading courses here in the region and we will be announcing our participants over the coming weeks."

The announcement of the international Golf Festival comes at a boom time for the golf industry across the region and follows a successful start to the Desert Swing, with exciting events in Abu Dhabi and Doha leading to this week's Dubai Desert Classic.

Dubai will also be home to the Dubai World Championship - the world's richest golf tournament - and the finale to the Race to Dubai this November when the top 60 players will be competing for a $10m prize fund.
