At Arab Health 2009 King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center, Riyadh, and Royal Philips Electronics announced an agreement that will see Philips supplying and installing a Cardiac Picture Archiving and Communications System (CPACS) to help KFSH&RC improve its clinical workflow and enhance patient care.

"The CPACS solution will allow KFSH&RC clinicians to work across multiple imaging systems, resulting in faster clinical decision making," said Diederik Zeven, general manager of Philips Healthcare for the Middle East. "This system enables staff to instantly see previous cardiac studies that a patient has had. With a click of a button they can open and review their results without going to another workstation elsewhere in the hospital, enabling staff to spend more time focusing on their patients."

The hospital is the largest tertiary care institution in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with nearly 400 consultants and an average referral of 32,000 patients and 600,000 outpatient visits annually. KFSH&RC is a pioneer in the field of organ transplantation including heart, liver, kidney, lung and bone marrow transplantation.

Dr Majid Al-Fayyadh, director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, KFSH&RC said: "We are a center of excellence for cardiac care, providing treatment to high risk pediatric and adult patients. We deal with hundreds of thousands of records and need an information system that can fully meet our needs. The new CPACS system offers that solution by enabling our clinicians to work across multiple imaging systems and access results instantly to allow us to offer the best patient care."

Philips' Xcelera CPACS solution is an integrated multi-modality image management system that organizes and provides access to images and data from key cardiology subspecialties including echocardiography, cardiovascular ultrasound, nuclear cardiology, cardiac CT, cardiac MR, cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology, as well as direct links to electrocardiography studies. Featuring a user-friendly design, Xcelera offers an extensive range of integrated, advanced quantification applications on a common workspace. The approach delivers powerful clinical insights that help physicians pinpoint health concerns, allowing patients to move through each step of care more efficiently.
