Monty leads Emirates NBD team to victory in Dubai Desert Classic Pro Am

It was Colin Montgomerie's day, the big Scotsman led his Emirates NBD-1 victory in the Dubai Desert Classic Pro Am and hours later he was appointed the 2010 Ryder Cup captain by the European Tour's tournament committee on Wednesday.

The Monty team, consisting of Rick Pudner, Richard Lewis and P. Tetivani, carded a superb net 59 to beat their nearest challengers on a countback. As many as five teams finished on 59, but the Emirates NBD team clinched the issue by virtue of their better back nine (30).

The CNN-2 team, led by Paul McGinley, finished second while the Emirates Airline-2 team, spearheaded by Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke, settled for the third. They were followed in that order by the Al Naboodah-1 and Carpetland-3 teams.

In the afternoon shot gun, Scott Strange led his Motivate Publishing team to victory. The team which comprised Robbie Greenfield, Ricky Dominguez, Dale Isaac, posted a net 57 to beat the
Carpetland-2 team on a countback.

Alexander Noren (pro), M. Khodjasteh, Teymour Alireza and Tarek Damerji formed the Carpetland team. The Jumeirah 3 team, led by pro Ignacio Garrido, and consisting of Junichi Tamakoshi, H. Kobayashi, Tetsuro Imai finished third on a net 58.
