du hands-over proceeds from fund-raising campaigns in aid of Gaza victims to UAE Red Crescent

As a conclusion to two-fold fund-raising campaigns launched in aid of Gaza victims, du, the UAE's integrated telecom service provider, today handed-over the collected proceeds to UAE Red Crescent.

du had launched two-fold fund-raising campaigns involving an internal campaign for du employees and an SMS based campaign for customers earlier this month.

Luma Jasim, Vice President - Channel Communications at du handed over a cheque of Dhs505, 700 to Mohamed Al Zarooni- Head of Red Crescent- Dubai.

Hala Badri, EVP Corporate Communications, du, said:

"It is heartening to see the response we received from du employees and customers following the launch of our two fund-raising campaigns. We hope this gesture will go a long way in providing relief to Palestinians in Gaza."


Mohamed Al Zarooni-Head of Red Crescent- Dubai, said: "Thanks to the support of du, we have collected a significant sum to provide immediate relief. We appreciate the gesture and thank each and everyone who contributed to make this happen."

du employees participated in the fund-raising efforts by donating money through an internal campaign. du customers also contributed to the campaign by sending an SMS 'Gaza' to a du short code '1000'.

The two fund-raising campaigns followed du's announcement to offer 50% reduction in rates for all calls across mobile, fixed and carrier select customers to Palestine (+970) originating from the UAE beginning 30 December 2008.

du customers can continue to support 'Aid Them' campaign till 5 February 2009 after which du will forward the total amount to the UAE Red Crescent. To contribute Dhs10, Dhs50, Dhs100 or Dhs200, customers need to send blanks SMSs to du short codes 9010, 9050, 9100 and 9200 respectively.
