  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, January 29 - 2009 at 16:12
  • PRESS RELEASE

It is the event lovers of American football around the world look forward to eagerly every year; Super Bowl XLIII, which kicks off at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on February 1, 2009 at 18:20 Eastern Time (February 2, 02:00AM local time) will decide the US National Football League champion for the 2008 season.

Vying for the championship title are American Football League (AFC) champion Pittsburgh Steelers and National Football Conference (NFC) champion Arizona Cardinals.

Arab Digital Distribution (ADD), the largest pay TV platform Management Company in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, will bring the live action of this exciting game on ESPN, to its subscribers of Firsnet Premium as well as Pehla Silver and Pehla Gold bouquet.

The 43rd edition of the Super Bowl promises to be a cliff hanger, with Pittsburgh vying for their sixth Super Bowl win, which would make them the team with the most wins in the game's history, while the Cardinals will seek to cap their Cinderella run this year in the NFC league with only their second title after their 1947 win against Philadelphia,

The two conference championship games were both highly competitive games that were nothing short of spectacular. In the NFC, Philadelphia Eagles watched the game slip out of their reach in the dying minutes, despite their fantastic earlier comeback. The AFC say some hard hitting by both teams, with the Steelers getting the better of the Baltimore Ravens.

If the Super Bowl is anything like the 42nd edition last year, when NFC champion New York Giants defeated AFC champion New England Patriots in one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history to become the first NFC wild card to ever win the title, this year's game should have viewers glued to their seats.

Excitement is high in the US and, despite the economic meltdown, commercials will be the most expensive to date at $3m for 30 seconds. Adding to the excitement are performances by Jennifer Hudson, Faith Hill and Bruce Springsteen. Hudson will perform the US National Anthem and Hill will sing 'America is Beautiful' before the kick-off, while Springsteen and his E-Street Band will perform at half-time.

The match will be re-aired on ESPN at 19.00 local time on February 2.

ESPN will also have a live broadcast of the annual AFC-NFC Pro Bowl, played at the end of the season after the Super Bowl, at 3.00AM local time on February 9. The Pro Bowl, the NFL's yearly All-Star event airing from Honolulu, Hawaii, features a play-off between all-star teams from both leagues comprising players voted into the Pro Bowl by the coaches, the players themselves, and the fans. The players of both teams have already been shortlisted for this end-of-season game.
