Muscat City Centre and Qurum City Centre Gold sponsors of Muscat Festival

Majid Al Futtaim Group (MAF), the region's leading shopping mall developer, has announced that its two major flagship stores in Oman will be Gold sponsors of the Muscat Festival, held from January 19th to February 12th.

Muscat City Centre and Qurum City Centre will both take the high profile sponsorship role for the Muscat Festival, which was introduced in 2000 by the Muscat Municipality.

The event was originally a retail event to promote trade in Oman, and has today taken the guise of an annual shopping festival that continues to draw people from all walks of life.

Muscat City Centre and Qurum City Centre are retail hubs in Oman offering shoppers a variety of lifestyle brands under one roof and will be extending their support to the Muscat Festival 2009 by holding promotions and events that will enthral visitors and tourists alike.

Ibrahim Al Qasmi, General Manager of Muscat City Centre, said:

"In addition to sponsoring the event MAF's participation in this important festival is evidence of our support towards activities and initiatives that boost tourism in Oman. MAF has always been at the forefront in contributing towards social initiatives in the country that attract both residents and tourists."


As part of the festivities, Muscat City Centre will be decorated in the colours of the Muscat Festival, while Bahja, the mascot of the Muscat Festival, will be seen walking around the mall entertaining visitors and tourists alike.

Hassan Jaboub, Mall Manager of Qurum City Centre, said: "Since its opening last month, Qurum City Centre has evolved as a popular shopping destination for customers in the area. With 75 stores including Carrefour and over 1100 car park, QCC is distinctive destination to all".

About Muscat City Centre:
Muscat City Centre, first opened in October, 2001, is the biggest and most dominant mall in Oman and recently underwent a 16-month RO 22.5 million expansion project. The original 33,036 square metres GLA of the Centre has now expanded to a total of 60,484 square metres of GLA, almost doubling the size of the mall and housing a total of 63 new stores since the beginning of 2007.

The Centre currently houses 144 retail outlets, a Carrefour hypermarket, Magic Planet and an international food court with 22 cafes and restaurants. Of the new stores that have been added to the mall, 95 per cent of the brands are making an entry into Oman retail market for the first time including Home Centre, E-Max, Centrepoint, Zara and Borders bookstore. With 42 top new brands, a first-of-its-kind, dedicated flyover and spacious multi-level parking lot, Muscat City Centre is the biggest and most dominant mall in Oman.

About Qurum City Centre:
Qurum City Centre is Majid Al Futtaim Group's second venture in Oman after the hugely successful shopping mall, Muscat City Centre. Strategically located in the commercial hub of upmarket Qurum area, the project stretches across a gross leasable area (GLA) of over 20,600 square metres.
The Centre opened its doors to the public in October 2008 and is home to over 75 retail outlets with anchor store Carrefour and popular brands such as H&M, BHS, Mango and Borders. The merchandise mix includes a strong representation in key categories such as fashion, F&B and other convenience and service sectors. Qurum City Centre has a designated food court, convenient access to and from the mall, with more than 900 parking lots and a taxi pick-up facility.
