Zain Kuwait introduces in-flight mobile roaming services on aircrafts

Zain the mobile telecommunications provider in Kuwait, announced today that it has successfully rolled out its in-flight mobile roaming services on board of aircrafts of the National Airways Company in cooperation with OnAir Company.

Zain Group is proud to be among the first few mobile operators in the region to introduce such services to its customers.

Zain said in a press statement that Zain's clients have been able to have access to international roaming services on board the National Airways Company's aircraft since its very first flight. The statement pointed out that the in-flight roaming system offers GSM, GRPS, Internet, e-mail and Blackberry services whilst flying. However, making and receiving voice call will be initially barred and will be made available later on.

On this occasion, Zain Kuwait's CEO Mr. Khaled Al-Hajiri said:

"The launch of our in-flight mobile services comes as a further step towards enhancing service customer. Zain seeks through this initiative to offer its customers the choice of using their own mobile phones to remain in contact with friends, family or colleagues during flights and therefore making communications more."

For appropriate and effective use of the in-flight roaming service, all flights will be providing a list of guidelines, which will include a request for passengers to switch their mobile phones to "silent" mode during the flight. In addition, the cabin crew will be able to monitor as well as handle full control of how the system will be used throughout the trip.

Passengers wanting to use the service during the trip will receive a text message welcoming them to Zain's in-flight mobile roaming system as soon as they switch their mobile phones on.
