Aspire proud sponsor of eighth Cycling Tour of Qatar

Aspire, the Doha-based Academy for Sports Excellence, has signed an agreement with the Qatari Cycling Federation to support and sponsor the eighth edition of the Cycling Tour of Qatar, taking place from 1 - 6 February.

For the first time, the Tour will include a women section held from 8 - 10 February.

As part of its commitment to support a variety of sports and raise its profile among the youth in Qatar, Aspire will be providing financial support and has launched the Best Emerging Athlete Award, to be presented during the Tour.

The Blue Shirt award will be presented to the best emerging athlete from each of the Tour's stages, in both the men's and women's sections.

"The Blue Shirt Award for the best emerging athlete was designed to show appreciation for the sports' newcomers; to motivate them, enhance their performance, recognize hard work and highlight these accomplishments lead to good results. This award will expand to include all upcoming major sports hosted in the country which Aspire might be a part of either logistically or by providing financial and athletic support."

said Ali Salem Afifa, Chief Administration Officer at Aspire

"At Aspire we have excellent relations with all national federations and associations and we are always looking at ways to strengthen these and work on providing support, as part of the country's vision of establishing Qatar as a regional and international sports hub. Therefore, it was a natural step to provide support to the Cycling Tour of Qatar, which has become one of the most prominent cycling tours around the world, attracting some big names such as the international Belgian cyclist, Tom Booonen," Afifa added.

Alongside the tour, Aspire will be holding a fun race for Aspire's young female students, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance cycling and introduce it to female students.

The Academy is distinguished by a philosophy which aims to develop the student as a whole, providing them with full academic, social and sporting development.

Unrivalled facilities, housed in and around the world's largest purpose built indoor sports dome, ensure the Academy's reputation as one of the foremost sporting and educational institutions in the entire international community, enticing an ever-increasing number of visitors and users, from sporting legends to global political leaders.

Every aspect of the development of elite athletes is catered for by one indoor and seven outdoor football pitches, athletics tracks, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, diving pool, combat arenas, gymnastics arena, specially designed weight rooms, lecture halls, dormitories to accommodate what will eventually become 1,000 students, a medical centre and many more facilities.

The Aspire ACTIVE programs and the work of Talent Centres spread across the country ensure that thousands of the nation's residents now have accessible and advanced health and fitness activities as routine aspects of their lives. Each social group is catered for by tailor-made classes and programs.

As of 2007, the Aspire Africa. Football Dreams project has tested over 600,000 young Africans from seven nations as part of the biggest-ever talent search in the sport. The top three footballers will be awarded full scholarships to study at the Academy alongside their Qatari classmates. First and foremost, Aspire is a place for those who dare to dream.
