Zero Waste Technology appointed as exclusive representative for Bluewater Bio International

Zero Waste Technology W.L.L. 'Zero Waste', a waste management company based in Bahrain announced today that it has entered into an exclusive representative agreement with Bluewater Bio International 'Bluewater Bio' or the 'Company' the provider of an advanced wastewater treatment solution named Hybacs, for the sale of Hybacs wastewater treatment solution.

The agreement, grants exclusivity for a period of one year for Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.

Kuwait has one of the highest water consumption rates in the region with the average individual consumption water rate hovering around 450 liters. Much of Kuwait's water is currently obtained from desalinated seawater taken from the Gulf, which is then mixed with around 10% brackish water from the state's limited groundwater aquifers to create potable water. The production capacity of the desalination plants in Kuwait was around 400 million gallons per day in 2008 and is expected to be raised to 600 million gallons during the next few years.

With a growing population in Kuwait and increasing demands on the water board from new developments such as the planned $132bn Silk City, which is set to house an additional 700,000 people, water security is becoming a major issue for Kuwait. Securing Kuwait's future water supply is likely to require a combination of different approaches.

While an increase in storage capacity will be necessary to provide security for a growing population, sourcing fresh supplies will also become a matter of urgency. Kuwait's government has also called for greater conservation measures and a more rational use of water. To date, there are no water treatment project in Kuwait awarded to Zero Waste Technology, however serious efforts are being made in that direction.

Mr. Najib Khouri, Zero Waste Technology Kuwait commented, "Homeowners and businesses in Kuwait should brace themselves for higher water bills as the industry attempts to cope with increased demand and shortages of supply of water. Investment in the water industry in the Middle East is expected to reach $100bn in the next decade in search for solutions. Experts warn that countries must act to find solutions to the problem as a lack of action could threaten their economic growth."

Daniel Ishag, CEO of Bluewater Bio commented, "Hybacs is a wastewater treatment process which can substantially biologically remove the inorganic nutrients nitrogen and phosphorous, making treated wastewater from Hybacs plants well suited to water re-use applications, particularly agricultural and horticultural irrigation. This is of particular relevance in the Middle East, and we are delighted to enter into this agreement with Zero Waste, which itself has successfully deployed pioneering technology to treat solid waste."

About Bluewater Bio:
Bluewater Bio International designs and markets a highly innovative advanced biological solution to the treatment of wastewater, called HYBACS. This system deploys a different biological approach to any internationally established wastewater treatment process. Through its design and operation, Hybacs biologically selects a particular group of bacteria, Bacillus, with unusual natural properties which if correctly stimulated exhibit higher biological reaction rates than other known naturally occurring bacteria.

The company believes that Hybacs will be proven to be commercially superior to the majority of existing comparable treatment processes worldwide, and is able to treat efficiently both municipal wastewater as well as a wide range of organic industrial wastewaters, including highly concentrated livestock wastewater and the effluent from, among others, breweries, food processors, textile manufacturers, hospitals, factories and residential developments. Bluewater Bio is looking to make sales of its Hybacs technology globally.

Key benefits of the Hybacs system include:
Hybacs produces high quality treated wastewater, treating the biological waste in municipal wastewater down to 10 mg/L BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), and up to 99%. treatment of the biological waste in concentrated wastewaters;

Hybacs requires between five and 15%. less capital expenditure than most widely installed comparable technologies to achieve these performance qualities on a like-for-like basis;

Hybacs requires between 22 and 30%. less ongoing operating expenditure based on an overall lower energy consumption requirement on a like-for-like basis.

Hybacs is highly suited to plant retrofitting which makes Hybacs more suitable for various types of plant upgrading as compared to many other advanced modern wastewater treatment processes. In applications where odour levels emanating from the plant may be an issue, the Hybacs process removes offensive odour without the requirement for additional deodorisation facilities which involve additional capital and operating expenditures; and Hybacs removes approximately twice the concentration of E. coli bacteria, compared to conventional technology which may result in moderately reduced operating expenditure at sites where disinfection of the effluent is required.

About Zero Waste Technology:
Zero Waste Technology is a leading regional company in the business of technology/services supply, development and operations of waste management facilities projects. Zero Waste utilizes natural solutions to reduce the effects of waste on the environment and maximize resource recovery back to the nature. With local government and private investor partners, Zero Waste aim to transform the Middle East and North Africa from oil and gas desert kingdoms to Eco friendly green nature.

Zero Waste has been involved in the development of many waste treatment project including the first Anerobic Digestion plant for municipal waste in the Middle East in 1999.
