Centrepoint retailer in Kuwait hosts 'Art Olympiad' for second consecutive year

In response to the overwhelming success of Art Olympiad 2008, well -known shopping destination, Centrepoint, in association with Gulf Bank, is once again ready to host the Art Olympiad for the second consecutive year.

The Art Olympiad, which recognizes the outstanding creative talents of students, will take place at The Palms Beach Hotel and Spa on Monday 16th February.

With 16 participating schools, this years Olympiad will pave a platform for 285 students (18 candidates per school) to showcase their artistic talents and reveal their creativity through the various themes. Students will be segregated into 3 age categories: 10 - 11, 12 - 13 and 14 - 15 years. Participants will be provided with all the required art mediums and supporting material.

Students will be judged on themes including Sports Day at School, My favorite Wonder of the world, View of the earth from space, My dream / fantasy, Me and a machine, Abstract Art, Various dance forms throughout the world, Workouts for a healthy lifestyle, Kuwait National Day Celebration, Helping mom and dad at home, Save Animals, and The most beautiful place in the world.

This initiative is part of Centrepoint's ongoing corporate social responsibility program which is aimed at providing a platform to the future citizens of the world by encouraging them to improvise their innovative ability through art. Centrepoint focuses on encouraging and developing youth and creating awareness about relevant issues through ongoing activities and events.

Mr. Sumit Gue, General Manager of Centrepoint said, "We had a very enthusiastic response from all the schools and students last year and decided to host the Olympiad again this year. This year we have 16 participating schools as compared to last years 9 and an addition of 85 more participating students. By conducting Art Olympiad, we hope to encourage students to express their views strongly and in an innovative manner about anything and everything that concerns their world."

The participating schools for this year's Olympiad are: Gulf English School, Kuwait English School, Fahaheel Al Watanieh Indian Private School, Indian English Academy School, The English Academy, Kuwait American School, French Kuwait School, British School of Kuwait, Dasman Model School, Canadian School of Kuwait, Bayan Bilingual School, Kuwait International English School, The Oxford Academy, Indian Educational School and Carmel School Kuwait.

A jury which includes Mr. Assad Bunashi, a famous artist , Mr. Mohammed Hafiz, General Manager and Creative Officer, Pulse DDP, Ms. Hiba Farhat Creative Director Pulse DDP along with a number of senior Landmark Group management will select a total of 15 winners. The participants will be judged on the basis of Creativity, Workmanship, Overall impression and Relevance to the Theme. Each one of the 15 winners will be awarded with exciting grand prizes which include Laptops, Camcoder, Playstations and many other valuable gifts. They will also receive certificates and trophies in recognition of their participation, and their schools will be given a plaque of appreciation.

In closing Gue said, "Centrepoint considers each participant a winner; and we encourage students to participate in this unique event. No participant will leave the venue disappointed, and Centrepoint will ensure all participants walk away with a gift."
