  • PRESS RELEASE

Government of South Australia announced that Pomegranates Australia will participate at Gulfood in the World Trade Exhibition Centre.

Every Australians' grandparent's backyard had one - a pomegranate tree.

A super rich Vitamin C source, research suggests that pomegranate juice may be effective against prostate cancer and osteoarthritis. The juice may also have antiviral and antibacterial effects against dental plaque, so granny was pretty savvy after all.

Moving way back in time, the pomegranate tree is said to have flourished in the Garden of Eden and is very likely the "apple" of Adam and Eve in Genesis. Native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India, the pomegranate and has been cultivated since ancient times throughout the Mediterranean region of Asia, Africa and Europe. Now Richard Lorraine of Pomegranates Australia, Australia's largest producer of pomegranate fruit will be seeking opportunity for these jewels back in their birthplace at Gulfood.

About the size of an apple, the fruit has a leathery, deep red to purplish red rind. When you split the hard fruit open, a mass of red seeds in a spongy white membrane is revealed. Only the seeds, with their sweet-tart flavour and squirty juice are edible. When choosing your perfect pomegranate, look at the skin. It should be thin, tough, and unbroken, showing that the flavour is well developed and the seeds will have tons of juice which you eat, of course—but when you're looking for variety, try sprinkling over salads, fruit desserts, cakes or puddings or use in marinades, glazes and for garnish. Top waffles, oatmeal, pancakes, cereal, or sundaes.

Pomegranates Australia make it easier as their specialty is the Arils (inside bits) which makes juicing easier leaving little or no waste.

The product range from their high quality fruit includes, Arils (fresh or frozen) for retail or food industry markets, Fresh fruit, Fruit juice (for concentrate or not for concentrate) and pomegranate oil. In the near future the company will also be releasing a range of pharmaceutical health products made from pomegranates.
