Arabian Power and Water Summit 2009 launched by Meed

The event will be held under the patronage of the Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA).

Speaking about the event Meed's Event Chairman, Edmund O'Sullivan said:

"The Power and Water Summit will be one of the highlights of Meed's annual events calendar. Currently the regional Power & Water industry is facing unprecedented challenges: a shortage of resources, project delays, fluctuating costs amidst the present global economic downturn, all of which will be featured during the two days of the summit."

Highlights of the opening day of the summit include a summary of Meed's Power & Water Annual Report from Angus Hindley, Meed's Research Editor as well as a 1-2-1 interview with H.E. Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi, Director of Privatisation, ADWEA.

Over the two days of the summit eight panel sessions will explore key topics such as 'Achieving sustainable business development in a demanding environment' from both the developers' and contractors' perspectives, 'Is privatisation the answer to the Middle East's energy shortage?' and 'Strategies for raising finance in tightening credit markets'.

Panel speakers will include leading industry representatives such as Dr. Abdullah M. Al Sheri, Vice-Governor for Regulatory Affairs, Electricity And Co-Generation Regulatory Authority (ECRA); Dr. Fareed M. Al-Yagout, President, National Power Company, Mohammed Abunayyan, Chairman,, ACWA Power International; Peter Barker-Homek, Chief Executive Officer, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company TAQA; and Abdulsattar M. Al Rashid Executive Managing Director at Qatar Power Company.

Arabian Power & Water Summit's second day opens with an overview of 'the effects of gas scarcity on the region's power & water industry' from Michael Corke, Senior Vice President, Purvin & Gertz and the summit concludes with an opportunity for all delegates' to debate the industry's principal challenges. Also on the agenda will be a new technology presentation from Veolia on day one and a Nuclear Energy mini workshop on day two.
