  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, December 12 - 2001 at 10:49
  • PRESS RELEASE

Inmarsat Ltd, the global mobile satellite communications provider, has announced the appointment of Samer Halawi as its new regional director for the Middle East, Africa & Central Asia.

Based in Dubai, Halawi is now responsible for the overall strategy and management of three key territories: the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia.

"It is really exciting to join Inmarsat's highly motivated, cross-continental team and I am delighted to have the opportunity to play an integral part in the development of the company's business across the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia," said Halawi. "I look forward to bring the latest satellite technology solutions to our customers, particularly in view of the new services we'll be introducing to the region."

Inmarsat is the world's preferred and most successful celestial extension to terrestrial communication networks. The company provides robust and reliable communications solutions to businesses around the world, in areas where there is no coverage, and where cost is prohibitive, through a global area network that is reliable, fast, secure and cost effective. Inmarsat delivers its solutions through a global distribution network of approximately 200 distributors and other service providers operating in over 150 countries.

Halawi is no stranger to the region or the global satellite industry. Prior to joining Inmarsat, he was sales director for FLAG Telecom's Middle East and North Africa business responsible for the sales of turnkey solutions and business development. Before this, he held the position of regional business development manager at ICO Global Communications, managing the business development and planning for the company across the Middle East and North Africa.

"Inmarsat is in the Middle East and Africa for the long term and so it is important to have a credible long term growth strategy. This is being established with the firm belief that we're not only going to see a growth in demand for voice, video and data converged communications mediums, but also the development of a range of mobile solutions made possible by even broader bandwidth,'' added Halawi.

Halawi's career spans both business and technical positions with organisations in the Middle East and North America. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University. "Through our Dubai office, we bring the technical, marketing and development support that our network requires to seamlessly and efficiently connect businesses in the region with the rest of the world," Halawi ended.
