  • PRESS RELEASE

UAE Minister of Foreign Trade H.E. Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi discussed the achievements of UAE women and the important role of Arab and Muslim women in the development of their respective countries during a meeting with Birgitta Sellen, Second Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Sweden from the Centre Party, during her recent visit to Sweden.

The Minister emphasized the high-profile status of UAE women and their various achievements, which she attributed to UAE President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan's strong advocacy for women empowerment in the country. She explained that Emirati women currently assume vital positions and responsibilities and contribute effectively to the Emirate's development and modernization.

H.E. further pointed out that Emirati women currently hold many government leadership posts in ministries, embassies, and parliament. She specifically referred to H.E. Sheikha Najlaa Al Qasimi, UAE Ambassador to Sweden, who is the first female ambassador of her country abroad.

Sheikha Lubna affirmed that the UAE's laws and society do not discriminate between men and women, as both participate in the country's development. H.E. added that women in the UAE occupy 66 per cent of government sector jobs, participate actively in national decision-making, and account for around 59 per cent of the UAE's total labor force.

H.E. emphasized that the UAE's leadership has opened the frontiers of knowledge to women at a time when education has become a priority in the government's program. She referred to the great strides made by the government to introduce the latest scientific and experiential approaches and introduce new technical skills to complement labor market needs.

Sheikha Lubna then provided updates on the achievements of women in the Arab and Islamic countries and their significant contributions to economic and social development in their own homelands.

The meeting was also attended by H.E. Sheikha Najlaa Al Qasimi and H.E. Eng. Salah Salem Bin Omeir Al Shamsi, Chairman of the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
