  • PRESS RELEASE

Emirates Driving Institute (EDI) imparted seat belt safety training to 300 taxi drivers on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of February 2009 at the RTA Office of Dubai Taxi in Al Quasis Industrial Area.

The Safety Training began with a lecture on the importance of Seat Belt wearing in 3 languages English, Arabic and Hindi/Urdu which was later followed by the roll over car and seat belt convincer demonstration. The lecture was an interactive session which involved questions on the black points system of the RTA, reasons to wear a seat belt etc. Lady taxi drivers were a part of the lecture too.

The demonstration emphasized on the correct usage of seatbelt.

"Most of the taxi drivers in Dubai are of the Pakistani or Indian Origin, who wear the seat belt in a very absurd fashion; over the head of the car seat, instead of strapping it around themselves as in normal situations. The seat belt convincer demonstrates the correct wearing methodology and convinces them of the effectiveness of the seatbelt",

said Asst. Senior Instructor Mohd. Karim, Emirates Driving Institute.

The roll over car was a spine chilling experience for the drivers. The Lady Taxi drivers who took the demonstration said, "One needs to wear the seatbelt always and am for sure convinced about its effectiveness".

The lecture finished with suggestions and feedback from the taxi drivers on their experience in the roll over car. Each of the taxi drivers was awarded a goody bag consisting of EDI goodies.
