The agreement, signed by Mr Saleh A Lootah for SouqExtra! and Engineer Mohammed Saif Alafkham, Director of Fujairah Municipality, calls for the development of a commercial land in Merbih City that will see the innovative retail concept set up its first community supercentre in the eastern side of the UAE, and provide residents in the area a one-stop shop for their day-to-day needs.

Saleh Lootah, SouqExtra!, said:
"Our expansion plan will continue, notwithstanding current market conditions. We are very optimistic about the retail market in the UAE, and the growing acceptance for SouqExtra!'s unique proposition is proof that the concept has sufficient merits to fly."

He emphasized, "As with anything we do, we will constantly monitor the market to ensure we make the right moves as we execute our expansion strategy."

As a result SouqExtra! has created positive ripples in the market, signing strategic deals across the UAE to set up a strong network of community supercentres in the country; as well as forging partnerships to boost its retail and service offers.

"Fujairah has seen a substantial growth in investments in the last couple of years that has boosted the emirate's commercial activities. SouqExtra!'s entry is a good positioning strategy as it comes at a good time in preparation for a foreseeable future of even greater growth," said Lootah.

Meanwhile, Alafkham added, "The move is an affirmation of our developing business climate. SouqExtra! comes at a perfect time as we have just completed our development plan, and see the entry of this innovative retail concept as an added value to residents and tourists in the city."

In addition to a number of resort developments in the city that are expected to boost tourism activity, a growing local and residential population provides an extensive customer base for SouqExtra! which in return will offer not only a better retail experience for residents, but also business opportunities for enterprising UAE nationals living in the city.
