Speaking of the contract, Sheik Abdullah bin Fahid Al Shakrah, Chairman of Al Hanoo Holding and EIC, said:
"Al Hanoo is committed to implementing technical policies and industrial safety procedures of the highest standard to guarantee the safety of the individuals, goods and storage places in EIC. We are confident that the work carried out by the company we have appointed for the construction of Warehouses City will adhere to the same high standards throughout."
The safety measures for Warehouses City include fire fighting systems and water sprinklers adopted by the Civil Defense Department, in addition to multiple entries and exits within the project site. The design for all warehouses also incorporates thermal isolation technology.
Al Hanoo recently finished developing the infrastructure for EIC and has installed all basic services, such as water and electricity grids, gas pipes and communications services, at a total cost of Dhs1.5bn. Al Hanoo has also set up a wide network of 25-70 metre paved roads to ensure easy traffic flow in and around the city, in addition to a network of 100 metre roads surrounding the city to deal with traffic loads and heavy duty vehicles.
Phase one of the development works of EIC, currently at 50%, is expected to be completed in Q4 of 2009.
