Review: Millennium Hotel, Doha, Qatar
- Qatar: Wednesday, February 11 - 2009 at 16:56
The Millennium Hotel in Doha impresses from the moment your taxi pulls up to the entrance. Close to the Centre Point Mall, the hotel is a mix of modern and Arabic tradition, and comes with 202 rooms and 24 suites.
Lobby is a poor description - it is more a grand atrium and sets the seen for staying in this bright, airy hotel. By adopting the atrium design there is a real feeling of space and light, with all rooms opening onto corridors that overlook the ground floor.
We had some problems with check-in, as staff could not find the reservation for one of our party. There way of handling it was to ask us to sit on comfortable sofas, relax with a free juice brought over by a waiter and let them sort it out. Which they did without fuss.
Lifts are glass and again overlook the ground floor as they rise. We were staying in Executive rooms, which entitled us to free internet access and breakfast on the seventh (and therefore top) floor business area.
The rooms felt executive too, with a good sized bed, LCD TV and proper desk from which to work. Inside the bathroom were the little touches you expect from a five star hotel, such as good quality bath and shower gels and a shaving kit.
The rooms also have a touch panel display to control various functions around the room from the convenience of your bed, such as switching on and off the lights.
The hotel is dry, so no alcohol is served, but there are other hotels a short cab ride away where you can get a drink. There is a decent café in the atrium area on the ground floor, serving juices, hot drinks and decent quality food. Wireless internet access is available from the area too, although it is quite expensive.
Overall, the Millennium Hotel in Doha comes recommended; the service was as impressive as its looks and to the age old question of would we stay there again, the answer is yes.
