The Abu Dhabi Men's College (ADMC), one of the leading colleges under the Higher Colleges of Technology and the largest institution of higher learning in the UAE, hosted Dr. Albert Esser, vice president of Data Centre Infrastructure at Dell.
"Students represent the next generation of IT leaders and are the torch-bearers of the new digital economy. They are part of a new generation of environmentally conscious consumers and have an important role in contributing to sustainable development through conservation of energy," Dr. Esser said. "As a company that is committed to being the world's greenest technology firm, Dell is leading the way through its Energy Smart products and solutions, minimizing the impact on the environment."
Dr. Esser discussed Dell's focus on enhancing data centre productivity through a combination of infrastructure energy efficiency, IT productivity and virtualization technology.
"We welcome Dell's initiative to educate our students on Green IT and to consider seriously their crucial role in addressing the challenge of energy conservation. ADMC firmly believes that partnership between the educational sector and the IT industry is vital in taking the Green IT momentum forward, and we look forward to such opportunities from Dell on an ongoing basis to facilitate continued learning on environmentally-conscious technologies," said Dr. Simon Jones, Drector, ADMC.
During the occasion, Dr. Albert Esser announced the Dell Green IT Competition Challenge - an essay writing competition for students that aims to bring out their perception and thoughts on the future of sustainable energy in the region and how they believe green IT can contribute to this. Winners will be selected from both ADMC and ADWC (Abu Dhabi Women's College).
