- United Arab Emirates: Monday, February 16 - 2009 at 15:03
- PRESS RELEASE
The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research will participate in the 9th International Defence Exhibition and Conference (Idex 2009) scheduled to be held under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, on February 22-26, 2009, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre.
More than 40,000 visitors are expected to visit the exhibition, including an elite gathering of prominent leaders and top officials from all over the world, as well as several defense ministers, chiefs of staff of the armed forces and other high-ranking officers.
The ECSSR will be exhibiting a select range of its publications, presently numbering 630 titles in both Arabic and English. These publications include both original and translated books written by internationally recognized scholars who are experts in international relations, security and military studies and energy issues.
They also include refereed monographs in Arabic and English which examine and analyze various strategic political, economic, and social issues, as well as the most significant regional and global developments.
These publications will be of great interest to intellectuals, thinkers and researchers specializing in issues affecting the Gulf region, the Middle East and the wider Arab world, and will appeal to a wide readership at the global level.
A recent ECSSR book released in English that will be displayed at Idex 2009 is Technology in Warfare: The Electronic Dimension, which charts the development of electronic warfare, a component of modern battle which continues to evolve, often in unexpected directions, with electronic warfare devices constantly advancing to meet the latest threats and challenges in a seemingly endless cycle of counter-measures and counter-counter-measures.
This book examines electronic warfare's great influence on the outcomes of modern conflicts, and attempts to provide insight on the future development of a field which - although rarely credited as such - represents one of the most vitally important aspects of warfare over the last century.
Another ECSSR publication that will be showcased is the Arabic book The Arabian Gulf: Between Conservatism and Change.
This volume tackles the points of difference and contradiction that have begun to emerge on a wide scale within Gulf countries between traditional conservative approaches, and reformist, modernist approaches to political, economic, social, cultural and educational developments.
