The agreement is part of the Career Progression Programme that Tamkeen (Labour Fund) has entrusted to BDO-JH to administer as part of its focus on giving Bahrainis access to ongoing world-class training that will result in better career development.

The agreement was signed at BAS headquarters in Muharraq by BAS Deputy Chief Executive, Salman Saleh Al-Mahmeed and Dr. Ehsan Ghurbal, the Director of the programme at BDO-JH.

Called the Tamkeen-CPP, the programme will offer the employees and BAS a combination of HR and training consultancy, training cost and training coordination as well as a subsidy of BD50 for each employee for 12 months after completing the training programme recommended by BDO Jawad Habib and BAS. BAS will engage their employees in the programme in batches to go through the assessment procedures followed by their training.

Tamkeen's Human Capital Development Manager, Mr. Yousif Ali pointed out that so far 2,334 employees from different companies have been engaged on the CPP programme; 574 have completed the Career Progression Programme from across industry sectors in Bahrain.

Dr. Ghurbal expressed his delight at BAS's participation in Tamkeen-CPP, "We are very proud that BAS, a well-reputed company in the aviation service sector, has joined this programme."

Dr. Ghurbal expressed his delight at BAS's participation in Tamkeen-CPP, "We are very proud that BAS, a well-reputed company in the aviation service sector, has joined this programme. It only proves that BAS management are great believers of their employees' development and progress. We would like other companies to follow the example of BAS and take action to help boost their employees' skills to develop their career and improve their productivity at work."

Commenting on the signing, Mr. Al-Mahmeed said, "BAS has a long history of serving the Kingdom of Bahrain to an exceptional standard. We believe in developing dedicated, hard working employees that excel in the service industry. Tamkeen's initiative of CPP acts as a catalyst to develop the workforce of tomorrow and with the expertise of BDO Jawad Habib as the HR and Training specialist it will ensure that this programme is managed effectively."

He further added, "We aim to utilise this programme to develop employees from all areas of BAS from Customer Service & Catering to Cargo and Administration. Initially, we are looking at around 200 employees, in select batches and will focus on areas such as customer service skills and business ethics, the foundations for the service sector. Our staff from check-in to meet & greet will greatly benefit from these tailored training programmes, making a difference and creating that all important 'first impression' a visitor receives."

Edward Geraghty - Senior Manager Human Resources, BAS added, "We, at BAS strongly believe in giving back to our employees. With its tailor made programmes, Tamkeen-CPP is an excellent addition to our training needs and to access our low-mid income employee's skills levels and enhance them. Our challenge will be to coordinate the Tamkeen-CPP with our work rosters and schedules as well as logistically scheduling for busy periods i.e. summer holidays, Christmas, New Years, EID etc to allow people to train."

"However, this programme will work in tandem with our in-house training programmes and will focus on staged releases of groups of employees to join the CPP. The initiative of BD50 increase in their basic salaries on completion of the training programme along with their newly honed skills will result in time and money well invested for the company, thus producing BAS employees of exacting standard and elevating the service industry as a whole," he added.
