This popularity was also acknowledged on Sunday evening with Festival Centre being awarded the 'Best Shopping Mall Decor' award in the category of DSF 2009 Innovation awards by the DSF Supreme Committee during the closing ceremony at the Dubai Festival City Four Seasons Golf Club. Festival Centre was awarded the 'Best Interior Design - Shopping Centres' by the DSF organising committee last year.

Festival Centre's unique retail offerings, choice of restaurants, coupled with the hosting performers Shaggy and Tamer Hosni and some of the finest DSF events in the city, helped it touch new heights of excellence and excitement. This success has led to the extension of The Chinese State Circus and Shaolin Warriors and the Street Fair at Festival Promenade until March 1.

Tom Miles, Director - Shopping Centres, Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate, said:
"I would like to thank the residents of Dubai and visiting tourists for their continued support. I would also sincerely thank the DSF Supreme Committee for selecting Festival Centre for the award. It is indeed a privilege to win this esteemed recognition."

"Businesses in Festival Centre pulled out all stops during DSF, which was a strong catalyst for this exceptional growth of 67% in footfall traffic over the previous year," he said. "We also increased our Gross Leasable Area (GLA) by 13% adding a selection of quality retailers who are obviously performing very well!"

"DSF sales figures will be fully reported in the month of March but early indications show that sales have increased by 36% from 2008 comparable stores. This trend appeared to continue in the final days of the festival and similar results are expected making DSF at Festival Centre a benchmark of retail success," he added.

"The retail industry has been affected by the global economic slowdown so it is imperative people's confidence is restored and consumer spending is stimulated. Festival Centre's unique position as the preferred choice for shopping and entertainment has encouraged our retailers to participate with more promotions to attract and reward customers. This in turn has challenged us, the mall management, to reach new heights this year," Mr. Miles said.

Dubai Festival City's retail precinct hosted a range of exciting events to coincide with the month-long extravaganza between January 15 and February 15, 2009. These events have strongly rooted Festival Centre as the city's focal address for quality offerings in shopping, dining and international events and entertainment.

Festival Centre hosts the SkyWalk Food Express, Fitness First, Magrudy's, Grand Festival Cinemas, traditional souk-style Trade Routes, Bowling City, and Dubai Gold Marketplace.
