Dr Steven Morgano, Chief Academic Officer of BUIDRE, said:
"By bringing the dentists to the children, we are giving every student an opportunity to learn about oral health. Through initiatives such as the Dental Health and Education Program, we are able to reach a large number of children at a critical time in their development."
The program included presentations on oral hygiene, followed by dental screenings for the school children by BUIDRE pediatric dentists. Selected children were awarded 'special smiles' certificates for observing good oral habits.
Dr Ayesha Abdullah, Senior Vice President of DHCC, said, "We are delighted with the success achieved by BUIDRE and DHCC in this program. In addition to being screened for dental problems, the children took home complimentary dental packs. The young ones really enjoyed the event that took forward our principle of encouraging the overall well-being of a patient through an integrated healthcare delivery approach."
Oral health care is an essential component of holistic healthcare. It encourages the prevention or elimination of diseases and conditions that occur in the mouth, such as dental caries (tooth decay) and gum diseases. Regular dental visits provide an opportunity for early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment, as well as education in oral hygiene. The earlier in life that annual check-ups become routine, the higher the likelihood for continuous, good oral hygiene throughout life, and prevention of oral diseases.
