The weeklong event spoke aloud the college vision of promoting physical health, education and wellness amongst its 2300 national students.

Along with the students from RAK and Fujairah Women's Colleges, DWC students participated in a variety of competitive and recreational sporting events which included fun run and team events such as badminton, football, volleyball, totem tennis, bocce, indoor climbing, aerobics and various activities at the Adventure Park. Students also tried their hands at traditional Arabic games.

During the Health and Physical Education Week, lectures focusing on healthy eating and osteoporosis were arranged. Other health related activities carried out during the week included skin testing, body mass indexing and bone density testing. The events were programmed with the aim of educating young Emirati women about the importance of developing and practicing healthy lifestyles and thus contributing to a better society.

In the words of Mary Lackie, Student Academic Services Supervisor "It was the vision of Dr. Howard Reed, Director, Dubai Women's College to have one of the best fitness Centres in the Middle East on our campus so as to provide an opportunity for the Emirati students to make healthy living a part of their culture. I'm proud that we are the only college in the UAE that has integrated physical education into the curriculum. We don't have soda and candy machines all around our campus and we have a cafeteria that provides healthy food choices without trans-fats."

"We have also employed the color-coding system that helps us to make healthy choices. Students living a healthy lifestyle will sleep better, be more energetic, have less stress, are less depressed, and have strong self esteem. The college looks forward to observing the students in action this week pursuing all of the activities and enjoying the spirit of team work and most of all having fun," Lackie added.
