The award recognizes the impact Philips iSITE solution has made to healthcare information technology, specifically the improvement in healthcare clinicians' workflow at Tawam Hospital.

Tawam Hospital was the first public hospital in the Middle East to implement Philips' iSite Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) innovative 'fee per study' model. Under the agreement, the hospital pays a fee on a monthly basis to view, distribute and store medical images, rather than making a large payment for equipment up-front.

"We are delighted to receive this award in recognition of the dedication of our staff and our successful implementation of the Philips iSITE Solution. Each patient can generate a great deal of information and we needed an easy way to store these images, The Philips iSite solution has made imaging data easy to store and manage, enabling our clinicians to access this information anytime and anywhere in the hospital."

said Ed Lembcke, Operations Officer of Tawam Hospital.

"We are very pleased that Tawam Hospital has received this award. The implementation of a PACS solution based on iSITE provided Tawam Hospital with an easy-to-use image management system that is adaptable to the needs of its clinicians," said Diederik Zeven, General Manager Middle East for Philips Healthcare. "Philips has been responsible for the delivery of the service, and this combined with easy management and accessibility of images has ensured that healthcare clinicians have been able to focus on their patients."

The award ceremony took place at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai on the 28th January, attended by the Minister of Health of the UAE, among other government representatives. Capsule sponsored this specialist award and Arab Health managed the Achievement and Innovation awards, which had eight categories. The other short-listed nominees in the information technology category were the King Faisal Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Clemenceau Medical Center, Beirut, Lebanon.

Tawam Hospital is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine International and provides specialized medical services including radiotherapy, cardiac care, breast cancer screening and diabetes management. The hospital, the largest in Al Ain, signed the reference site agreement with Philips earlier in the year.

Under the contract Philips provides a 99.99% uptime PACS service, computed radiography systems and client workstations. The solution integrates with the hospital's Cerner HIS/RIS, creating a paperless, filmless workflow for patients and care providers. In addition to being installed at the main hospital site, the iSite solution also connects two remote sites over a Wide Area Network.

The latest version of iSite features advanced visualization capabilities that are completely integrated into the PACS workflow and provide additional diagnostic information through clinically relevant visualization anywhere throughout the hospital. Fully interactive real-time volumetric reading tools (MIP, MPR, 3D) are delivered to the PACS workstation via Philips iSyntax technology, which brings advanced rendering performance and scalability without additional cost and complexities.
