Gulfood 2009 marks opening with 20% market growth

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Finance Minister opened Gulfood 2009 this morning at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
After the ribbon-cutting opening ceremony, His Highness toured the complete Gulfood Exhibition, which will continue for four days. His Highness saw the most modern food products and kitchen equipment with up-to-date technology and food services being showcased.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai World Trade Centre announced the new extension of exhibition space at DWTC that will commence construction immediately, for the space to be available by the end of 2009. With this extension, DWTC facilities will provide one million square feet in overall covered exhibition space.
His Highness announced to the press that the Gulfood 2009 exhibition has grown by 20% which demonstrates that the food sector has not been affected by the global economic downturn, and the Emirate's market is still growing and continues to be the preferred destination internationally despite economic conditions.
Helal Almarri, CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre, said that Gulfood 2009 which has been operating for 14 years, creates ideal opportunities for specialised companies to enhance their position, product, marketing and investment activities in the Region through the Emirate's market
The CEO of DWTC has welcomed the announcement of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Finance Minister regarding the new extension which will continue to attract more people to participate in exhibitions hosted by DWTC. This ensures Dubai's status as the international centre for all exhibitions, conferences and events, hosting the largest shows in various sectors.
