The contest, in conjunction with ADIBF organisers Kitab, will run from 1st to 19th March with the winning novel unveiled on the final day of the fair. The book fair takes place from 17-22 March at Adnec.

Kitab, a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage and the Frankfurt Book Fair has shortlisted 40 novels (English and Arabic), based on public opinion and regional bestseller lists, for the public to vote on. Book lovers can also nominate a novel of their choice by filling out the details on to the competition's website. The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair will moderate the nomination process and add the nominated novels to the original shortlist within 24 hours with a unique code. The public can then select the newly elected novel as a winning entry if it is one of their favourite.

The public can register to vote in the competition by logging on to the competition website or by SMSing TNFN followed by the nominated novel's code, available on www.nationsnovel.com, to 3538 (Etisalat) or 9100 (Du). The top 5 novels will be highlighted throughout the competition on the website.

Abu Dhabi Media Company is a media partner for the fair and will be promoting the event across its entire media platform including The National, Al Ittihad, Emarat FM, Abu Dhabi Al Emarat, Majed and Zahrat Al Khaleej.

Vida Rizq, Chief Marketing Officer, Abu Dhabi Media Company said:
"The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair is a key moment in the arts and cultural calendar for the capital and the nation's favourite novel competition is a great way for Abu Dhabi Media Company to support grassroots cultural and educational initiatives in the capital. This is a great event bringing together international, regional and local authors and publishers and enhances Abu Dhabi's position as a publishing and cultural hub in the region."

Claudia Kaiser, General Manager, Kitab added: "This year's fair will be the largest ever and is expected to exceed 2008's records. The fair is 100% sold out and we had a waiting list of keen exhibitors eight weeks prior to the show. The competition is a great way to create a buzz among book lovers and also a great way to get more people into books."
