The first Wataniya Aircraft landed in Beirut's airport at 1:30pm yesterday, taxiing in under the traditional water salute that ushers in a new airline. Special guests from Lebanon's Civil Aviation Authority plus local as well as Kuwait based media attended a brief ceremony at the airport to commemorate this special occasion.
Wataniya Airways Chairman, Abdulsalam Al Bahar, said:
"We are delighted to have been able to select Beirut as the second destination for Wataniya Airways as our research has indicated this to be one of the most popular routes for travellers from Kuwait. Beirut is one of the most vibrant cities in the Middle East, offering a plethora of benefits from business to culture to popular entertainment."
"Kuwait has long had a close relationship with this magnificent multi-cultural city and Wataniya Airways looks forward to servicing the high demand for both business travel and those visiting their friends and relatives working in both Kuwait and Lebanon," Al Bahar added.
Wataniya Airways currently flies from the Sheikh Saad terminal to Beirut and Dubai and, later this week, will be adding Cairo and Bahrain to its network. It is the first time that any commercial airline has operated from a location other than Kuwait International Airport and the prestigious private terminal provides a fitting setting for Wataniya Airways' special guest services.
"The introduction of this route coupled with the other existing and planned routes indicate the commitment of Wataniya Airways to provide convenient and competitive air travel options to new destinations," said George Cooper, CEO of Wataniya Airways. "The recent delivery of another Airbus A320 aircraft has allowed us to strengthen our short haul network and provide our guests with more choice, convenient schedules and an enhanced travel experience."
In Beirut, Wataniya Airways has appointed leading aviation, hospitality and travel advisor, Planet Group, as its General Sales Agent (GSA). The internationally recognised Group with varied business interests has received acclaim for its continuous drive to deliver quality services and is an ideal partner to help deliver the Wataniya Airways premium service offer.
The airline's new Airbus 320 aircraft will be configured with the lowest seat density of any A320 used on scheduled routes in the world. Each aircraft will feature 122 seats, compared with the 145 that a number of leading European airlines use in their A320s, ensuring excellent leg room and comfort throughout its First Class and Premium Economy cabins.
Wataniya Airways is a truly unique enterprise for both Kuwait and the region. Services include unrivalled guest care on the ground and in the air thanks to expertly trained staff; leading First Class and Premium Economy services; custom-outfitted aircraft cabins; convenient flight schedules; and Sheikh Saad Terminal, the exclusive arrival and departure hub offering unprecedented benefits to Wataniya Airways guests travelling to and from Kuwait.
Wataniya Airways ticket bookings can be made using a range of convenient methods; calling the Kuwait Guest Contact Centre on 118 or +965 24379999, dialling 01 265666 from Lebanon; via the website or through a preferred travel agent.
