'Live' leads innovation in outside broadcast with new high-tech Spider Cam

  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, March 02 - 2009 at 12:19
  • PRESS RELEASE

LIVE, Abu Dhabi Media Company's wholly-owned outside broadcast subsidiary, has become the first production company in the UAE to use the Spider Cam (or flying camera); a sophisticated mobile, robotic, HD-enabled device designed for capturing large-scale aerial views in High Definition.

LIVE will be using the state-of-the-art cameras to film the action in the remaining rounds of the UAE football league and Etisalat Cup and will use it in the production of upcoming major cultural and sporting events.

Considered to be the most advanced and sophisticated equipment of its kind, the Spider Cam works by gliding across wires attached to high poles, giving it a vantage point from which it can record the action live and from all angles in High Definition. Its ability to film with a 360 degree horizontal movement gives the Spider Cam a unique artistic advantage, allowing innovative and creative art direction. These cameras have been used in filming global sporting events such as the Euro 2008 football tournament while international football leagues like the Premiership, La Liga and Primera Liga also use flying cameras for major fixtures.

Abdul Hadi Al Sheik, Managing Director and CEO of LIVE said:

"We are delighted to be the first to bring this exciting technology to the region. We are leading innovation in HD production and flying cameras enrich our efforts in capturing the region's biggest events in crystal clear detail. We also believe in complying with the highest international standards in TV production, and that means not only investing in the best creative and technical talent but also the most advanced equipment in the field. To that end, we have a panel of experts in place for the management and installation of all the Spider Cams to ensure efficiency, quality and international standards are followed when using this equipment."

Jochen Eberlein, Chief Operations Officer and Head of Production LIVE said: "We are delighted to give audiences an innovative state-of-the-art TV experience. LIVE has a clear strategy to maintain high standards in production and broadcasting best practices and will continue to invest in the best technology to remain at the forefront."

LIVE is the official producer of the UAE Football League, producing six matches every week, including coverage of six matches of the UFL Cup and one Challenge Cup match and has covered the following events in HD:
