- PRESS RELEASE
HSBC has appointed Kapil Chadda as Managing Director of Global Banking in Qatar.
Chadda has been with HSBC since 2005, and has led the bank's wholesale banking activities in Qatar since then.
In that time, HSBC has established itself as a leader in Qatar, with recent high-profile transactions including the IPO of GIS in 2008, the ratings and debut sukuk issue of Alaqaria, the financial advisor role to Al Wa'ab City, and the project financing for Kahramaa for the Ras Girtas power and water project. In the process HSBC has become a trusted advisor to Qatar's government sector, large corporates, multinational companies, and other financial institutions.
HSBC Securities Services, meanwhile, has successfully established its Fund Administration and custody and clearing business, giving HSBC a leading position with the international investor community looking to invest in Qatar. HSBC is also a leader in the management of mutual and other equity funds. This division was established in Qatar in 2006 and has been recognised by customers as the pre-eminent service provider in the country.
"The GCC in general and Qatar in particular are central to HSBC Global Banking and Markets emerging markets-focused strategy," commented Chadda. "HSBC's Global Banking and Markets franchise in Qatar has been a great success, and we work in close partnership with the nation's institutions in their continued growth."
HSBC's performance in Qatar has been recognized by the industry with awards in both Investment Banking and Securities Services, including Euromoney's award for Best Investment Bank in the Middle East for 2009, and winning the Best Sub Custodian in Qatar in every year since the service was established.
