DWC organizes three-day training on power quality
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, March 04 - 2009 at 11:55
- PRESS RELEASE
DWC DuServe, engineering and services solution provider of Dubai World Central (DWC), the 140-square-kilometre urban land development in Dubai, is organizing a three-day professional advancement course from 7-9 April 2009 at Dubai's Al Bustan Rotana Hotel to provide a thorough insight on power quality issues.
"Power quality is a growing concern to distribution companies, telecommunication companies, process industries, steel mills, refineries and sensitive businesses, leading to interruptions, equipment break downs, excessive loading and energy losses," said Rashed Buqa'raa, Chief Operating Officer, DWC.
The Middle East is experiencing a surge in power usage as several mega projects are under construction and as national demograhics change. In this context, the course for experts and specialists will enable organizations to understand concerns and learn from best practices.
The penetration of large non-linear loads such as 400 Hz ground power units, computer equipment, security systems, electric ground support equipment and electric vehicle battery chargers poses potential power quality, power delivery and energy consumption issues, especially in big airports like the one being developed by Dubai World Central.
Included in the power quality course are various standards in use and under-development, measuring and monitoring power quality and fixing problems, worldwide earthing and grounding practices, and the economics of power quality issues. In addition, the course will deal with several practical real world examples.
Alex McEachern, President of Power Standards Lab, California USA, and a renowned authority on power quality will be the main instructor at the course.
McEachern has authored many books, owns 29 worldwide patents and has won several awards for his contribution in this field, aside from being member of many international committees on power quality.
