Ambitions projects and vast production capacities of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority

Work is in progress to execute major projects of production, transmission and distribution of electricity and water.
H.E Saeed Al Tayer - MD & CEO of DEWA stated that DEWA is acting in accordance with the prudent directions and ambitious vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum -Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, which is in-line with the Dubai's Strategic Plan that constitutes work methodology, to which the strategic plan of DEWA was aligned, This urges the necessity of providing the various needs of our blessed development by the services of DEWA in the fields of electricity and water, to preserving the environment and rationalizing the use of available resources, in a way that contributes to achieving our goals in the sustainable development.
H.E. stated that DEWA currently has 6676 MW of electricity, while the peak load was equal to 5287 MW as registered in 2008 with a surplus margin equal to 1389 MW and a reserve margin exceeding 26% of electricity required during the peak demand. He also stated that the production capacity of electricity would reach 7287 MW, by the end of this year.
With regard to the water sector H.E stated that the production capacity of DEWA was 278 MIGD by the end of 2008, while the highest demand was 264 MIGD, with surplus reserve margin of 14 MIGD. However, the production capacity of DEWA for water will reach 333 MIGD by the end of this year.
H.E said that the electricity and water transmission and distribution networks would expand horizontally and vertically in compliance with the construction plans of Dubai. In the year 2008 Dewa commissioned 28 numbers of 132kv substations and one 400 kV substation.
It is planned that 27 number of 132kV substations will also be put into service. Moreover, hundreds of kms of electricity cables, overhead lines, transformers and distribution networks will be connected in the various areas of Dubai.
H.E mentioned that DEWA is currently executing large number of projects for water transmission and distribution networks, water storage complexes and pumping stations, for providing the various needs of development projects in the various areas, with high efficiency.
H.E Saeed Al Tayer concluded that DEWA's efficiently in operation is in par with other similar modern utilities globally based on Data comparison and KPI's which is also used to enhance the strength points to the highest possible levels, not only in the region but worldwide, as this KPI's has been accredited globally by global consultants.
