HSBC Bank Middle East makes senior management appointment

HSBC Bank Middle East today named Simon Cooper as the new Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank Middle East Limited, subject to formal regulatory approvals.

Existing CEO, Youssef Nasr has been appointed as Chairman of HSBC Bank Middle East. He is responsible for the Group's operations across the Middle East and will focus on corporate governance and customer experience together with service related initiatives.

Simon Cooper comes to this role from HSBC Korea where he was the Group's General Manager and Chief Executive Officer. In his role he will be responsible for all operational aspects of the bank.

Commenting on his appointment, Youssef Nasr said:
"Simon brings executive leadership qualities, combined with extensive expertise in our industry that together with our management team will help the bank focus on growth in the Middle East. I am delighted to welcome Simon to the region and look forward to working with him in his new role."


Simon holds an MA in Law from the University of Cambridge. He joined HSBC Group in 1989. Before moving to Korea in March 2006, he was the Managing Director and Head of Corporate and Investment Banking in Singapore, and Deputy Chief Executive and Head of Corporate and Investment Banking in Thailand.
