IBM opens new service delivery center in Egypt

H.E. Dr. Tarek Kamel Minister of Communications and IT witnessed the announcement of an agreement between ITIDA and IBM to establish a Managed Business Process Services (MBPS) Delivery Center in Egypt.

The agreement aims to expand IBM's presence in Egypt by establishing a delivery center for IBM clients. The Center will create up to 1500 Egyptian jobs over the next three years.

Also present at the announcement were a delegation from IBM headed by Mr. Peter Lynt, Vice President Global Business Process Delivery, Eng Amr Ghoneim, General Manager, IBM Egypt and from ITIDA, Dr. Hazem Abdel Azim, Executive Director, and Mr. Amin Khaireldin, Strategy Advisor & Board Member ITIDA.

Through the agreement, employment opportunities will be made available to Egyptians in alignment with the government's national agenda of focusing on creating employment opportunities through various projects.

"In our own ICT sector we are demonstrating how partnerships between government, private sector, multinationals, trade associations and our young and talented workforce is helping to make Egypt part of the global knowledge society," said Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

Eng. Amr Ghoneim, General Manager, and IBM Egypt, said:
"IBM's choice to establish the center in Egypt recognizes Egypt's high value services delivery, geographical location, and the availability of a skilled talent pool. These are key factors contributing to Egypt's successful experience in this industry."

The establishment of an MBPS Center brings together ITIDA under the auspices of MCIT promoting Egypt as a competitive business location and IBM, providing high value services to customers.

"Egypt has built an entire ecosystem to support the country's IT industry. The availability of a qualified workforce, excellent infrastructure and secure environment has all helped attract companies to invest in Egypt," said Dr.Hazem Abdel Azim , Executive Director, ITIDA.

The new Center will include a range of activities and functions from Business Process Outsourcing back-office and transaction processing operations, Technical support operations and call center operations. In addition, the new MBPS center is expected to contribute further to Egypt's competitiveness.

"This agreement is an important part of the ongoing expansion of IBM's global business process services delivery framework," says Peter Lynt, Vice President Global Business Process Delivery. "ICT is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Egypt and is playing an important role in Egypt's development."
