McDonald's Egypt launches first phase of new campaign to develop unplanned communities.
The first phase of this campaign will start with 'Ezbet Kheir Allah' a community located in Old Cairo, which is in dire need of help and support. McDonald's Egypt will help by allocating 25 piasters of every 'Happy Meal' to restore, renovate, and develop kindergartens in the area. The initiative will serve more than 250 children since each classroom carries 25 pupils

The initiative is in cooperation with 'Peace and Plenty' (Kheir wa Baraka) association for developing society and caring for children. The launching ceremony was attended by the residents of 'Ezbet Kheir Allah' and senior officials from McDonald's Egypt.

The initiative started in March 2009 and adopts the development and renewal of classrooms at ten kindergartens, providing them with school materials, carrying out teacher training programs, repairing restrooms and plumbing, as well as providing school uniforms.

Mr. Alaa Fathy, McDonald's - Egypt Deputy General Manager said, "We launch this initiative to continue our company's progress in paying attention to the future which is represented in children, especially at the nursery stage, which is considered the cornerstone of the whole educational process. We hope this project achieves its targets, most importantly providing a better environmental and educational atmosphere for nursery children who need more help."

The project also adopts awareness programs for mothers and teachers on how to take care of the children through cleanliness in homes and nurseries, as well as acquainting them with health and safety guidelines. This is in addition to organizing recreational activities for the children; such as tours to historic places, public parks and amusement centers.

'Ezbet Kheir Allah' is an appropriate choice because it is an area that needs a concerted effort to help it improve from civil societies. Providing better education for the children of the area is a crucial step in the right direction.

McDonald's Egypt has a long history in its championing of childcare. It has launched several initiatives within the framework of playing a lead role in social responsibility, with an aim to support local communities and as always, Egypt's children are a top priority.
