The programme is part of the partnership between TDIC and the Guggenheim, which will culminate in the opening of the Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum on Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Island in 2012/13.
Taking place on 7, 8, 9 and 18 March at Emirates Palace, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Series will feature lectures, artists' talks and panel discussions including:
• Leading international contemporary artists Rokhi Haerizadeh, Mona Hatoum, Anish Kapoor, Anselm Kiefer, Jeff Koons, Cai Guo Qiang and James Turrell.
• Directors, curators and scholars from world-class cultural institutions such as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation & Museum, the Royal Academy of Arts, Columbia University, the Prada Foundation, the Lebanese Association for Plastic Arts, the National Art Museum of China, the ZKM Centre for Art and Media, the Al Ma'mal Foundation for Contemporary Art and the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.
His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of TDIC, said:
"Talking Art is opening up a profound and exploratory dialogue about artistic developments in the UAE and the rest of the world. Participation in the programme by leading artists and academics from around the globe reflects the goal of TDIC's cultural programme, to welcome the world to Abu Dhabi in a spirit of mutual respect and open exchange."
Presented under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Emirati Expressions features approximately 160 paintings, sculptures, drawings, calligraphy, prints, photographs, videos, mixed media works and installations by UAE artists. Open through 16 April 2009 in Gallery One of Emirates Palace, the exhibition is curated by Anne Baldassari, Director of the Musée National Picasso in Paris.
The Talking Art programmes are free of charge and are offered in both English and Arabic. All events take place within the Emirati Expressions exhibition, Gallery One, Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi. Prior booking is recommended for the public, as space may be limited.
