Bachelors in Midwifery Program at Dubai Women's College

Dubai Women's College (DWC) has launched a new full time Bachelors Program in Midwifery from March 1st, 2009.
The Bachelors Program will equip the midwives with the special skill sets and knowledge required to ensure the safety and well being of the pregnant mother and baby, especially focus to help the mother have a natural and normal delivery. Students will receive both theoretical and practical experience in all areas of maternal, fetal and infant care.
Upon completion of the program, the midwives will be able to professionally assist mothers and families both in the clinics, hospital settings and in the community. Through this program, DWC and DOHMS are aiming to enhance the public awareness regarding the important role of midwives in the community.
DWC is honored to have been chosen for the delivery of the midwifery program. The last training and development workshop for Clinical Mentors was held at DWC on 16 February 2009. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Kay Dahya, (DWC) Chair of Health Sciences and Dr. Grace the Midwifery Research & Development Specialist from Al Wasl Hospital. The workshop focused on exploring the role of mentors and the development of knowledge and skills in being an effective mentor for the new Midwifery students.
Dr. Howard Reed, Director of Dubai Women's College said, "The Midwifery program is an exciting addition to the Dubai Women's College Health Science Department. DWC is collaborating with DOHMS in providing this program to 24 mature professionals who are seeking to improve women's health in Dubai. Students in this program come from 10 different countries. DWC is proud to collaborate with the Dubai Health Authority in meeting Dubai's shortage of health professionals."
Dr. Behjat al Yousuf, Associate Director added saying, "This addition to the current suite of Health Science programs is a culmination of the joined efforts between Dubai Women's College and Dubai Health Authority in addressing the demand of the community and the employers in developing the human talent required to meet the growing health care demand of Dubai. The midwifery is a new program introduced for the first time in HCT and is designed to meet international standards in a local context. The programme is highly significant not only for the students but for Dubai and the UAE as a whole."
