Oman Web Award winners felicitated

The grand finale of the fourth edition of Oman Web Awards culminated at a gala dinner event which was held at the Al Bustan Palace InterContinental hotel, Muscat on the 28th Feb 2009.

The Chief Guest, His Excellency Mohammed Nasser Al Khasibi, Secretary General of Ministry of National Economy and Chairman of the Information Technology Authority (ITA), graced the award ceremony. The event was held under the auspices of ITA, the apex government body for Information Technology in the Sultanate and presided by Dr. Salim Al Ruzaiqi, CEO, ITA and Pierre Moukarzel, President of the Pan Arab Web Awards Academy.

It was witnessed by top government officials and corporate heads of Oman. The registration for this year's awards competition closed with a breaking record of over 180 participants in 24 different categories. Pierre Moukarzel , President of the Pan Arab Web Awards Academy welcomed the guests for the evening and Talal Al Rahbi, Chief of Information and Awareness Division Unit, ITA spoke on behalf of ITA.

The awards for the first four categories were presented by His Excellency Mohammed Nasser Al Khasibi and the rest of the awards were felicitated to the winners by Sheikh Salem Ahmed Al Ghazali, Chairman, Taameer Investment, Hatim Al Taie from Al Roya Press & Publishing, Mike Ison, Centre Director of ELS Language Center, Rafique Choudary, CFO, A'Saffa poultry farms and Nick Smith, CEO, The Wave.

In response to His Majesty's call for enhancing the government services using electronic means to usher the Sultanate of Oman into a knowledge society, several government agencies and ministries have developed professional websites of high standards for their organisation. This was evident from the entries in the Ministries and Govt. Organisations category.

The Gold Award in this category was taken with pride by the Civil Service Employees Pension Fund while the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water resources walked away with the Silver Award. The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority's website bagged the Bronze award in this category. All these websites are well structured with highly useful information and good levels of interactivity.

The Award ceremony was presented by SJS Group, Oman. The website of His Majesty developed Hamoud Al Azri won a special award in this year's Oman Web Awards grand finale and this was presented by Dr. Salim Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA. The muscatfestival.com website and knowledgeoman.com forum also received honorary awards and were felicitated in the award ceremony.

Mr. Pierre Moukarzel presented the Best Web Design Company of the Year Award and this Award was scored by the International Information Technology Company LLC, IITC, OHI Group. The grand award, - The Best Website of the Year award went to binmirza.com designed by Asha Advertising agency.
