Sultan Qaboos website wins double awards

The website of the visionary leader of the Sultanate of Oman, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said at www.oman-qaboos.net won special appreciation awards at the grand finale of the Oman Web Awards 2008.

In the fourth year of this annual national level websites competition, this website also won the Gold Award in the personal websites category.
The awards were presented at the H.E. Mohammed Nasser Al Khasibi, Secretary General Ministry of National Economy and Chairman of the Information Technology Authority of Oman at a glittering ceremony held in the Al Bustan Palace hotel, Muscat.

This site launched in March 2008 and presented as a gift to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos on the celebrations of the Sultanate's National Day, has received top-national honours in its very maiden year.

Oman Web Awards is a member of the Pan Arab Web Awards Committee which oversees and awards the best websites in the Arab region. The Oman Web Awards, organised by the SJS Group in association with the Pan Arab Web Awards, aims to recognise the best Omani websites in various categories. An elite panel of expert judges selected the winners from about 180 nominations.

The Oman Web Awards aim to promote the sprit of innovation and creativity and in turn raise the bar for web designing and website services. The competition recognises the people and organisations responsible for developing some of the most effective websites in Oman. Each Standard of Excellence award recognises the level of quality that all corporate websites should strive to attain.

Speaking about the awards, the designer Hamoud Mohd Alazri said, "We are very delighted to achieve this distinction in our maiden attempt and would like to dedicate this award to his majesty in earnest sincerity. A lot of hard work has gone into making this user-friendly site in 7 different languages namely: Arabic, English, Hindi, Korean, Portuguese, Farsi and French. The contents are organized in sections namely, Birth, Education, Interests, Achievements, Speeches, Photo Gallery, National Songs, and Acknowledgements in a simple navigable structure. We have managed to fit a range of contents into a simple structure bearing in mind the theme and the hallmark of quality".

Al Azri celebrated this unique distinction with his team comprising of Bader Alazri, Bader Al Mamari, Ibrahim Al Bakri and Sangeetha Sridhar. With the recognition awarded at the Oman Web Awards, this site qualifies to enter regional competition at the prestigious Pan Arab Web Awards 2008 to compete with national winners from the other Arab countries. The team optimistically awaits accolades through regional distinction for their endeavour.
