Glaucoma is a disease characterized by gradual loss of vision resulting from death of the cells in the eye which transmits visual images through the optic nerve to the brain. As the optic nerve becomes increasingly damaged, permanent vision loss and blindness can occur.

Highlighting the benefit of the offer to the residents of Oman, Mr. Prem Thomas, clinic manager, Welcare DTC, said:
"Glaucoma is something to be taken seriously. We very much hope that offering the free tests will encourage people to become more aware of this serious problem that can lead to blindness. Early detection is the key to treating and halting the effects of glaucoma, but current worldwide estimates reveal that more than half of glaucoma sufferers do not even realize they have the disease."

"Anyone who is considered high-risk for glaucoma is highly encouraged to attend these screenings. Even individuals who are not in the high-risk category should take advantage of the free screening as a preventative measure to protect their eyesight," he added.

The free screening is available in the clinic and requires the patient to schedule an appointment.
