ZU students launch "One Abu Dhabi...Let's keep it clean" campaign

3 students from Zayed University's College of Communication & Media Sciences in Abu Dhabi launched the 3 day clean-up campaign "One Abu Dhabi...Let's keep it clean", which is held under the sponsorship of Abu Dhabi Sports Council and in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Municipality and Environment Agency -AbuDhabi.

The clean-up campaign which covered the new Corniche beach in Abu Dhabi and was organized as Fakhera Al Mansouri, Hind Khouri and Noura AlAmimi's capstone project, and aims to enhance awareness to the importance of reducing waste and improving the conditions of the environment in Abu Dhabi.

Keen to take part in the initiative and to send the message of the importance of environmental protection across the country, 70 students from the 5 colleges of Zayed University in Abu Dhabi, staff, faculty and football players Ismail Matar, Fahad Masoud, Hamdan Kamali, Mohammad Said Al-Shehhi, Saleh Obaid, Ridha Abdul Hadi, Khalid Mohammed, Sultan Menhali, Khairy Khalfan, Ali Saeed, Salim Abdullah, participated in the cleanup campaign in the presence of Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, secretary general of Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), and several officials from Zayed University.

Fakhera Al Mansouri a 4th year student in the College of Communication & Media Sciences said:

"We noticed that a lot of people of different age groups and nationalities usually depend on the cleaners to clean after them, although disposing of waste correctly doesn't require a lot of effort or time, so we were inspired to launch this campaign hoping that it encourages students to develop a sense of responsibility and commitment to the society and environment".


On her part, Hind Khouri a 4th year student in the College of Communication & Media Sciences said: "Students and participants were split into groups; each was allocated to a different location where they received a glove and a bags for collection, to differentiate between different types of waste and facilitate the process of recycling".

Noura AlAmimi, also a 4th year student in the College of Communication & Media Sciences said: "Launching this campaign sends an important message to raise environmental awareness and urges the public to take part in the effort to create a healthy environment". "Our clean-up campaign "One Abu Dhabi...Let's keep it clean" resulted in collecting over 185.2 kilograms of waste from the beach, which included plastic and paper waste, organic waste, glass, cans etc."
