According to Generation Data Bank, the Swedish research company specialized in Duty Free and Travel Retail Statistics, the 2008 preliminary figures show that the global duty free and travel retail sales grew by 8.8% to touch $37bn. The Middle East registered an impressive surge of 16.2%t compared to 2007, to touch $1.1bn.
Justin Boutros, Chief Executive of Channels Exhibitions, said:

One of the exhibitors - Radmilla from Slovakia - showcasing hand-made cherries and plums in chocolates has received an enthusiastic response from the show. Vladimir Trnka, Sales and Production Manager with Radmilla, said: "We are happy with the show as we received a very good response from trade visitors and the regional trade. The Middle East offers a huge potential for our products and this show offers a good platform for companies like us."
MEE 2009 also provides the perfect business platform for luxury goods and duty free industry, further reinforcing Dubai's reputation as the regional hub for luxury trade. The exhibition is supported by Dubai Duty Free (DDF) and the Middle East Duty Free Association (MEDFA).
