Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi issues 'Guide to Safe Boating' during Abu Dhabi Yacht Show

The Department of Transport 'DoT' in Abu Dhabi announced today through its Maritime Sector the issuance of the first edition of the 'Guide to Safe Boating.'
In its first edition, the 'Guide to Safe Boating' comes in separate volumes in Arabic and English containing important information and tips on safe boating for owners and users of leisure marine vessels of different sizes, covering pre-departure, sailing and anchoring stages.
In pre-departure stage, the Guide discusses marine vessel maintenance and the importance of ensuring the readiness of all safety equipment onboard. During the journey, the Guide provides important instructions and useful tips on boat handling in different sea conditions and highlights the rules of collision prevention and avoidance. In the following stage, it draws attention to best mooring and anchoring techniques and sheds light throughout its pages on other important safety information.
In addition, the Guide features a number of very useful illustrations and signals explaining navigation lights, sound signals, cardinal marks, distress flares, emergency handling and fire fighting. As well as a checklist and glossary of boating terms.
Through the issuance of the 'Guide to Safe Boating', the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi aims to promote safe boating practices; raise environmental awareness; disseminate practical information to avoid and prevent collisions; and support the efficiency of waterways management in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The 'Guide to Safe Boating' is available for free to all visitors of Abu Dhabi Yacht Show; as well as through the Maritime Sector of the Department of Transport.
