Jon Wiseman, Honda National Manager, After Sales says, "This forms an integral part of our ongoing training and recruitment strategy and these trainees have set a benchmark that subsequent groups will have to match - they really have come through with flying colours; they're a very motivated bunch with a lot of natural ability."

Wiseman explained that the first part of the training had taken place over seven months at the Vocational Training Centre in Seeb. "It was a rigorous induction and the group was put through its paces," adds Wiseman. "We monitored their progress throughout and had monthly meetings with each individual trainee to discuss their performance. We made it clear at the outset that Honda works to the highest international standards and they immediately rose to the challenge."

Phase two of the training took place in the Honda Wattaya Service Centre and Workshop and was devised to give as wide a range of on-the-job experience as possible. "The trainees were attached to our top members of staff on a rotation basis for this portion of the programme," says Pervez Qureshi, Honda's Automobile Service Manager and who personally oversaw all aspects of the training.

"This stage was tough but from the start the trainees were determined to succeed. The whole group should really be congratulated both for their hard work and positive attitude. I have to say I'm very much looking forward to seeing them develop their skills and areas of expertise as they progress through the Honda Maintenance and Repair Division," Qureshi added.

During the coming months the trainees will be assigned various jobs and responsibilities and will have the opportunity to specialize in their particular areas of interest - whether its motorbikes and marine engines or body work and major repairs.

"It's important to note that these bright and able youngsters aren't just starting a job," emphasizes the National After Sales Manager. "They're setting out on a career with Honda and over the coming months and years we will be monitoring their work and making sure they receive appropriate and timely professional training to develop their skills and enable them to move up the career ladder. We have high expectations of this group and I'm sure they'll do us proud."
