The interactive event highlighted the elements of personal safety while crossing the road or riding a vehicle.

The workshop used quizzes and animation to capture the attention and reinforce key messages among the young audience and raised children's awareness to various types of risky road habits that could prove disastrous for themselves and to others. Adding to the fun of the session were six characters in costumes, each symbolizing a vital element of road safety.

In its objective to promote road safety measures for children, the 'Little Steps for Safety' programme engages the participation of parents and teachers through drawing their attention to simple accident-prone behaviour such as a parent calling out to the child from across the road.

Dubai First's initiative has added significance in light of the recent reports released by the UAE government authorities stating 119 pedestrians were killed on the roads in 2007, 47 per cent of whom were children.

Launched by Dubai First in April 2008, 'Little Steps for Safety' is an integral component of its corporate responsibility programme and is implemented with the cooperation of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and U.A.E. police authorities.
