Held as part of a special health camp for women organised in line with the International Women's Month celebrations at the mall, the forum was conducted by Dr. Amala Nazareth, MBBS; MD from Prime Medical Center and was attended by women from various age brackets.

The focus of the forum was on raising awareness about various aspects of cervical cancer, the second most common cancer among women worldwide, resulting in an estimated 270,000 deaths each year.

Pierre Issa, Director for Operations, Sharaf Group, said: "When it comes to life threatening diseases like cancer, prevention and detection are of critical importance, which is why this forum on cervical cancer was highly significant. Times Square Center is pleased to have had the opportunity to be a part of this initiative, which we believe has benefited the large number of women who attended the event. We are grateful to Synergy Integrated Medical Centre and Prime Medical Center for the support they are extending throughout the month-long health camp being held at the center."

Dr. Nazareeth said:
"Like breast cancer, cervical cancer too affects a significant number of women around the world. It is estimated that on a global scale, a woman dies of cervical cancer every two minutes, while around 500,000 women are diagnosed with the disease each year. Even in the UAE, cervical cancer is the second most common form of cancer among women, which highlights the need to spread as much awareness of the disease as possible."

During her talk, Dr. Nazareeth shared that modern breakthroughs in medicine have allowed experts to help cure cervical cancer, which is caused by the human papillomavirus, commonly known as HPV.

"Women can avoid this form of cancer through regular screening and also by gaining a better understanding of the disease," she added.
