Al Jazeera Children's Channel wins Gold Award at 19th Cairo International Film Festival for Children

Al Jazeera Children's Channel was announced winner of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture's Golden Award for the Best Arabic Long and Short Feature Films during the 19th Cairo International Film Festival for Children closing ceremony held Friday evening at the Cairo Opera House.
The Gold award, won by one of Al Jazeera Children's Channel 2008 production "Penalty", a film directed by the renowned Tunisian Film Director Nouri Bouzid, comes to recognize the high quality documentary and feature films production Al Jazeera Children's Channel is producing in collaboration with distinguished Arab and International filmmakers.
The award was received by Christiane Salem, Channel's Public Relations Manager who on her part commented, "This remarkable milestone reflects Al Jazeera Children's Channel adamant role promoting Arab Children Media and active drive maximizing children edutainment in the industry with the collaboration of national and international production houses."
"Penalty" talks about 11 year old boy called "Tarek" with a remarkable passion for football. One night before a long awaited significant football match played by his most favorite national team against the Cameron, Tarek gets himself grounded.
Forbidden from watching the game, sad and miserable, Tarek falls so deep asleep to wake up to a disturbing and shameful reality... he has wet his bed.
In the morning, and with the help of a relative, Tarek overcomes the embarrassment and despair of this mishap... and spends a remarkable day in his life, like no other wandering the streets of his city."

• 14th Cairo Arab Media Festival, Golden Award for Best Film and a reward sum of forty thousand Egyptian pounds for "My Simple Story", a film by Izidor Musallem, in November 2008.
• 14th Cairo Arab Media Festival, two Golden Awards for Best Child Actors and a reward sum of ten thousand Egyptian pounds for each of the two main casts of "My Simple Story", in November 2008.
