FIA Vice President for Sport Mohammed Ben Sulayem addresses Sharjah HCT students during the "Al Noor Safe Driving Campaign" held from 16-17 Marcy 2009.
Sulayem, who is also President of the Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) this week, addressed a gathering at an event organized by Al Mudam Police Station to highlight the futility of rash and negligent driving, which often claim the lives of young people, many for no fault of their own.

The ATCUAE president also addressed a gathering of students at the Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology which organized the Al Noor Safe Driving Campaign under the slogan "Speed is a waste of life."

"You are our future leaders and we have to put in a lot of effort and time to drive home the point that it is imperative to save our lives and the lives of our children.

"It is important that safe driving habits are inculcated in the young, hence I welcome the HCT's initiatives in promoting road safety. I know how difficult it must be because it requires a coordinated effort on part of various organizations such as the police and ambulance services to name a few, but the effort must be made to protect the lives of current and future generations,"

Sulayem added.

The Unified Gulf Traffic Week, which runs until Mar 19, is being held under the theme "Don't Call Till You Arrive," a reference to drivers who use their mobile phones when behind the wheel.
The UAE is sending a delegation of 15 officers from traffic and licensing authorities to GCC countries such as Saudi Arabia and Bahrain during traffic week.
